Line Drawings and Bill of Materials
Here is a guide on how to make line drawings:
1. Setup and Views (Step 1)
First, you need to select a space and click create line drawings to start the process.
Navigating the Window
A Tips & Tricks Help section is available in the top right which reviews all the controls needed to navigate the window.
You can use the middle or right mouse buttons to pan.
The mouse wheel will zoom.
Use
Ctrl + Zto undo andCtrl + Yto redo actions. You can save your progress in the top left.
Defining Views
In the "setup view" step, you define the perspectives you want to export.
Your list of views will appear on the left.
By default, the Floor and Ceiling views are always provided.
You have the option to add as many elevation views as you like. You can rename each view by right-clicking on it.
Moving and Repositioning the Camera
When you add a view, a camera appears with a blue shaded area showing what is in view, and a preview of the coverage appears on the left.
Free Movement: You can move the camera by grabbing and dragging the camera icon.
Axis Lock: You can lock the camera's movement along its axis by grabbing and dragging the arrow in front of the camera, or by holding
Shiftwhile dragging the camera icon.Rotation and Resizing: Icons on either end of the camera are used to rotate and resize the view.
Keyboard Shortcuts for Speed and Alignment
These shortcuts help speed up camera placement:
Auto-Align to Wall: Hold down
Ctrlwhile dragging the camera; the camera will automatically align with the nearest wall. If the camera grabs something unintended, like a column, you can keep dragging toward the desired wall or use the resize handles to fit the wall.Duplicating Views: This is the quickest way to add another view to your exports:
Hold down
Altwhile clicking on the camera icon to duplicate the camera and allow for complete freedom to move the new one.Hold down
Altand drag the arrow in front of the camera to duplicate the camera and keep the new camera aligned in line with the first.
2. Annotate (Step 2)
In the annotation step, you add dimensions, notes, and can change the units shown on the dimensions.
Adding Dimensions
Click the Add Dimensions button.
As you move your cursor, green lines will appear, representing the outlines of objects in your room. Hovering over the edge of a green line will identify the object (e.g., cabinets, projection screen, wall). This is helpful for correctly placing dimension lines.
To place a dimension line, click the mouse to start, drag the line, and click again to finish.
The dimension line will automatically snap to the green lines or object handles.
Benefit of Snapping
When a dimension line begins or ends on an object's edge or handle, the measurement will automatically update if the object's size is later changed in VR.
Editing Dimensions
After placing a measurement, you can modify it:
Adjusting: You can grab the handles on the ends to adjust the dimension.
Adding Text: You can double-click on the measurement to add descriptive text to the dimension (e.g., "this is a stayer").
Deleting: Hover over the measurement and hit the
Deletekey on the keyboard.
Adding Notes
Use the Add Notes button to place general notes anywhere on the drawings.
You can double-click the note to add text, and then resize and move it as desired.
3. Generate Drawings (Step 3)
The final step is generating the drawings.
Line drawings will always export as a PDF.
You can choose to export all the views or select individual views.
There is also a place to add company information, such as a logo or phone number.
When you hit Generate Drawings, you can save the file to your desired location.
