Custom Video

  • Modus allows for you to import your own videos into the Media tab.

Encoding video files Videos must follow the following guidelines:

Be encoded at 30fps or less.

Be no greater than 1080p, but 720p is strongly recommended. Videos do not have to be at a 16:9 aspect ratio, but they should not have letterboxing.

Be encoded in h.264 at a reasonable bitrate. If your videos are at 720p, 5-10Mbps is typically sufficient.

Have audio encoded in AAC stereo.

Be in an .mp4 wrapper, otherwise Modus will not find it. For example, .avi, .mv4, .mkv, etc. are not currently supported.

Creating thumbnail files These images must follow the following guidelines:

Be in jpg format ● Be 260x386 resolution

Be named with the full video file, including extension, and then.jpg. For example, if your video file is “9-Excel.mp4”, the thumbnail image should be named “9-Excel.mp4.jpg”.

Note the “.mp4” in the jpg’s filename.

Creating data files

  • These are simply text files following JSON structure. Most programmers are familiar with JSON but anyone can write it with a simple text editor like Notepad on Windows (not Wordpad or Word). Because formatting is critical, it’s easiest to start with an existing JSON file and alter what’s there.

  • Like the jpg, these files are named with the full video file and then “.json”. If your video file was named “9-Excel.mp4”, the data file should be named “9-Excel.mp4.json”.

  • The JSON file has three pieces of data but only the first two are critical: {

"title": "My sample video", "aspectRatio":[ 0, 2.35, 1 ], "colors": [ [1, 1, 1, 1] ]

} Only change the values in red and you’ll be fine. So if you had an excel video that was 16:9 aspect ratio, your JSON file would look like this: {

"title": "Excel", "aspectRatio":[ 0, 16, 9 ], "colors": [ [1, 1, 1, 1] ]

}

Notes for multi user sessions

  • If someone doesn't have the right video, instead of seeing nothing they see a "missing content" video
